Chinese Grammars.
1: The sentence with two objects.
Some Chinese verbs may take two objects: the first is called the indirect object, usually referring to people; the second is the direct object, usually referring to something. This type of verbs are relatively few, most verbs cannot take two objects. The verbs that can take double objects include “教,给,还,问,回答,告诉”, etc.
For example:
Subject + Verb + Object1 + Object2
王老师 教 我们 课文 和 语法。
Mr. Wang teaches us texts and grammar.
玛丽 给 我 一本 英文 杂志。
Mary gave me an English magazine.
我 问 老师 一个 问题。
I asked the teacher a question.
我 回答 老师 问题。
I answer the teacher's questions.
我 告诉 你 一件 事情。
Let me tell you something.
我 借 你 三块。
I'll lend you three yuan.
我 还 你 十元。
I'll repay you ten yuan.
2: The “的” Phrase
“的” can be used after a pronoun, an adjective or a verb to form a phrase which is equivalent to a nominal phrase with its headword omitted.
For example:
这 本 书 不是 我 的。
This book is not mine.
= 这本书不是 (我的书)。
这个 杯子 是 昨天 买 的。
This cup was bought yesterday.
= 这个杯子是 (昨天买的杯子)。
这 块 手表 是 你 的 吗?

= 这块手表是 (你的手表) 吗?
